FAQs

What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is someone who is professionally trained and experienced to provide informational, physical, and emotional care and support to a woman, her baby, and the entire family after giving birth.

Why should I hire a Postpartum Doula?

Hiring a postpartum doula can help you gain the confidence and knowledge needed to believe in your abilities as a new parent. By providing practical support, basic housekeeping help, infant care, mother care, and other facilitations around the house, a postpartum doula can benefit you significantly in recovering from the physically and emotionally demanding process of childbirth and in adjusting to the new challenges of parenthood.

What does a Postpartum Doula NOT provide in their services?

A postpartum doula does NOT

  • Offer medical care, treatment, or diagnosis.
  • Clinical or physical examinations of mother or child.
  • Decision making on behalf of the mother or family.
  • Act as a substitute to the responsibilities of a parent or partner.

Do they help with breastfeeding?

Postpartum Doulas are trained and certified to provide basic breastfeeding support to the new mother and her infant if they desire. She assists in various aspects of the process including first-time feed, breast milk pumping, and other such basic needs. However, complicated and medically-related issues will require a Professional Lactation Consultant.

I did fine with my first baby, why would I need help with the second?

Having your second baby means there are now two kids that need your attention and care. Going home after birth for the second time can be a little more challenging and busier. Hiring a postpartum doula will ensure that the newborn’s siblings are looked after and adjusting well with as much care as the mother and infant.

Are you certified? What type of training do you have?

Yes. I am certified by DONA International and have years of personal and professional experience in taking care of the newborn baby and her mother.

How many hours will I need?

The number of hours of postpartum support you will need depends upon your personal requirements, budget, and family condition.
